The Cato Bontjes van Beek grammar school is - next to the Achimer grammar school on the market - one of two grammar schools in Achim in the Lower Saxony district of Verden and was inaugurated on September 11, 1971. It was named after Cato Bontjes van Beek , a German resistance fighter against National Socialism , in 1991; previously it was called the Achim grammar school .

The catchment area includes, in addition Achim still Oyten that thedinghausen and stains Ottersberg . Fischerhude , the place of origin of Cato Bontjes van Beeks, belongs to Ottersberg and is therefore also in the catchment area of the Achimer grammar school.

Due to the abolition of the orientation level in Lower Saxony at the beginning of the 2004/05 school year, it was the largest grammar school in Lower Saxony. In the 2011/2012 school year, around 1300 students attended the Cato Bontjes van Beek grammar school. They are taught by over 126 teachers.

Since the summer of 2008, the Ottersberg branch has been an independent school called "Mittelgymnasium-Ottersberg". Since then, the high school is no longer the largest in Lower Saxony.

The current director of the grammar school is Stefan Krolle, who took office in the summer of 2009 after Reinhard Scheller led the school as acting headmaster for a year.

Since March 14, 2006 the Cato-Bontjes-van-Beek-Gymnasium has been a school without racism - school with courage . The school is thus a member of an international network that speaks out against racism in schools. The school is sponsored by the Jewish immigrant orchestra . The school is a European school .

Gym

The hall of the grammar school is the venue of the SG Achim / Baden , a handball club that sometimes played in the 2nd handball league .
