history

Otto Modersohn Museum

Belonging to the parish of Wilstedt , Fischerhude was first mentioned in 1124 as a property of the Rastede Monastery as Widagheshude an der Wemmo . In 1190 the place was called Widigeshude . Later the patronage of the church in Wilstedt passed from the abbot of Rastede to the Counts of Oldenburg and remained in the possession of the Grand Duke of Oldenburg until the 19th century.

After Heinrich Breling and Wilhelm Heinrich Rohmeyer settled in Fischerhude in 1908 , it developed into an artists' colony . This was followed by Otto Modersohn , Hans book , Clara Rilke-Westhoff (wife of Rainer Maria Rilke ) and her brother, the painter Helmuth Westhoff , composer Karl Gerst Berger and the writer Diedrich Speckmann . With his sister-in-law, the sculptor Amelie Breling , Jan Bontjes van Beek set up a ceramics workshop in 1922, which has been running the Fischerhuder Kunst-Keramik brand since 1925 .

With the municipal territorial reform in 1968 the localities Fischerhude and Quelkhorn were merged. On July 1, 1972, Fischerhude was incorporated into the unified community of Flecken Ottersberg.
