The Heimat-Rundblick ( original spelling HEIMAT-RUNDBLICK ) is a regional and cultural magazine for the Lower Saxony district of Osterholz and its surroundings, which primarily deals with regional topics from history , culture and nature . The magazine was founded in 1987 and appears quarterly.

The magazine

Title additions

The magazine Heimat-Rundblick has two title additions that have been changed and updated several times, most recently with the publication of issue number 104 ("1/2013") in spring 2013. Since then, the first title addition has been describing the region between the rivers Hamme covered by the magazine , Wümme and Weser , and reads from the region Hamme, Wümme, Weser ( original spelling FROM THE REGION HAMME, WÜMME, WESER ). The second title addition History • Culture • Nature ( proper spelling HISTORY • CULTURE • NATURE ) has been used continuously since the first issue until today and has so far been in first place.

History and task

The founding of the Heimat-Rundblick goes back to an initiative of the Lilienthal printing company and publisher Manfred Simmering in the mid-1980s. Simmering found support from the Worpswede local historian and publicist Helmut Stelljes . The new magazine was supposed to become “a link” between the various local associations in the region, since up until then “research was carried out everywhere”, but “nobody […] really knew about the other”. After a preprint "consistently received a positive response", the first issue appeared in the spring of 1987. From then on the magazine was published quarterly.

The 100th edition was published in March 2012 as a special "anniversary edition". It was pointed out by members of the editorial team that the magazine was “a reservoir” for “people who conduct research in the fields of history, culture and nature and want to make their results publicly available”. The past is shaken up again and the knowledge in the areas of history, culture and nature in the region is "saved from being forgotten", because "if it is not written anywhere", it is gone. According to their own assessment, “a culture magazine has been created that is looking for its equal in the Elbe-Weser region”. In addition, the home clubs have come closer to each other through the Heimat Rundblick.

Regional cultural area, range of topics and content

The regional cultural area in the south-western part of the Elbe-Weser triangle and in two adjoining districts of Bremen , about which the magazine mainly reports and which at the same time represents its main area of circulation, is described in a subtitle of the magazine. Since 2013, the first subtitle has accordingly referred to the region "Hamme, Wümme, Weser" and replaces the previous second subtitle, which still listed the main towns in this region individually. These are the communities of the Lower Saxony district of Osterholz ( Osterholz-Scharmbeck , Grasberg , Hambergen , Lilienthal , Ritterhude and Schwanewede ), one adjacent community each from the two districts of Verden ( Fischerhude ) and Rotenburg ( Tarmstedt ) in Lower Saxony and both of them Bremen districts Borgfeld and Lesum , which were incorporated into Bremen in 1945 and 1939 respectively.

The range of topics mainly includes articles on the history, culture and nature of this region, but topics from the near and far surroundings are also dealt with in some cases. The magazine mainly reports on known or interesting people , on exhibitions , historically significant buildings , important facilities and historical events as well as on flora and fauna . In particular, topics from "this home region " are researched and dealt with that are not "already known to everyone". According to the publisher and editorial staff, the Heimat-Rundblick has the "characteristic of liveliness", whereby "no [...] period of history is concealed". In addition, “polemics and party politics” had “no place” in the magazine and one would avoid any “folkish aftertaste”.

Individual contributions are also published in the Low German language at irregular intervals .

Appearance

The magazine appears in A4 format and has a length of 24 to 36 pages per issue. The title information, its arrangement and the design of the entire title page have so far been subject to several changes. The arrangement of the lettering of the title and the two title additions in the header area of the title page in the manner of an emblem was changed several times, most recently in 2013, but its basic structure was retained. When issue number 71 came out in 2004 with a different title, the response from readers was so clear that the following issue appeared again "in the usual guise".

The first edition came out in the spring of 1987 under the title “Heimat-Rundblick” and with the additional title “History, Culture, Nature”, which has been retained to this day. The additional title was initially "Grasberg, Hambergen, Lilienthal, Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Ritterhude, Schwanewede, Worpswede, Borgfeld, Fischerhude, Tarmstedt" and later changed in part. The order of the place names was changed and the place "Lesum" was added, which was then retained until the 103rd edition in winter 2012. The indices were also given differently in some cases; Meanwhile, in addition to specifying the issue number, year and year-related consecutive numbering, there is also a seasonal statement, beginning in the year of publication with "Spring [year number]". The individual issues appear today at the end of each quarter.

During the first seven issues on the front page main article text, each with a small black and white - Illustration applied (see picture) is the magazine since the number 8 ( "1/1989") with a full-page Cover opened. The cover picture has so far mostly consisted of a full-page color photograph from the present, while several motifs in different formats were rarely assembled or full-page reproductions of historical photographs in black and white were used. The title page of the anniversary edition number 100 was designed with a collage of the scaled-down images of the title pages of the 99 editions published up to then.

From number 96 (“1/2011”) in spring 2011, the magazine came out with a design-changed “title emblem”. In addition, the title page has since then contained an excerpt and keyword-like table of contents in the footer , in which selected articles from the respective issue are displayed in the form of so-called teasers (see picture) . The title page of the anniversary edition from spring 2012 has been specially designed and has no table of contents.

In 2013, beginning with issue number 104 (“1/2013”) from spring 2013, the “title emblem” and the two title additions were changed again. The subtitle related to the treated region, which was previously in second place and last consisted of a list of 11 places or districts, has been shortened to a description of the region ("From the region Hamme, Wümme, Weser") and is now available first place. The subtitle “History, Culture, Nature”, which was used from the start, has since been in second place. The rest of the title page design with a full-page color image and a list of contents in the footer area was retained.

Editor and publisher

From its founding in 1987 until the end of 2009, the initiator and co-founder of the magazine, Manfred Simmering, was the editor in charge of Heimat-Rundblick. During this period, the magazine was published by Simmering's book and magazine publisher , M. Simmering in Lilienthal . The magazine has been published by Druckerpresse-Verlag UG (limited liability) since the beginning of 2010, which took over the publishing and graphic services from Simmerings Verlag and which is also based in Lilienthal. The publisher's managing director is the printing company and publisher Jürgen Langenbruch, who also acts as the publisher of the magazine. Simmering, who gave up his publishing house for reasons of age, continues to work as an editor for Heimat-Rundblick.

Editorial team and authors

The editorial team currently (2015) consists of: Wilko Jäger , Rupprecht Knoop, Christian Lenz, Peter Richter, Manfred Simmering and Helmut Stelljes . The previous authors of the Heimat-Rundblick include Heinz Lemmermann († 2007), Herbert Fittschen († 2012), Hermann Gutmann († 2013) and Hermann Cordes († 2014).

The entire circle of authors of the magazine consists of around 25 members who meet once a quarter at another location in the Osterholz district or its surroundings to discuss the next issue. In connection with these "large editorial meetings", guided tours or lectures are often offered, as the meetings usually take place in objects of historical or regional significance. According to the company, the gatherings often enabled a glimpse of “new topics” and their backgrounds and at the same time made “a contribution to getting to know each other” of the individual home associations and institutions. The articles that are then prepared by the individual authors after “mostly meticulous research”, information gathering, interviews and the creation or acquisition of images and submitted by the respective editorial deadline are prepared by the publisher and then selected in “smaller editorial meetings” based on layout , typesetting and corrections Preface and table of contents compiled in a new issue.
