Helmut Stelljes (* 1933 in Bremen ) is a German author , photographer and local historian .

Life

Helmut Stelljes spent his childhood in Worpswede in Lower Saxony and the surrounding area. After completing his school education, he studied pedagogy , sociology , psychology , mathematics , philosophy and art history . In 1981 he received his doctorate from the University of Bremen as Dr. phil. with a methodical and didactic work on mathematics lessons.

In the mid-1970s, Stelljes and his family moved to Worpswede and settled there. At first he worked mainly as a freelance author and journalist, and since the early 1990s he has also been working as a freelance photographer. In addition to some methodical and didactic work, he dealt and deals in numerous publications with his adopted home Worpswede, such as the cultural history of the “artist village” and the region, which is shaped by the Worpswede artists' colony , as well as various artist portraits. Most recently, in 2013, Stelljes published the book for children and young people The Henne and Her Duck Children , in which he experienced the "true story of a feathered blended family" and illustrated it with his own photographs .

As a photographer, Stelljes has had numerous exhibitions , such as in Worpswede (1993, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002), Solms (1994), Bremerhaven (1994), Heiligenhafen (1995), Bremen (1996, 1998, 2001), Osterholz-Scharmbeck (1997, 2010), Hanover (1998) and Elmshorn (2002). In addition, he took part in various photo competitions, where he won several prizes. As a photographer, Stelljes is a member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists (BBK).

Stelljes has been involved in the fields of art, culture and homeland care in Worpswede since the early 1980s . In 1987 he co-founded the regional and cultural magazine Heimat-Rundblick , which has been published quarterly since then and in which regional topics from history, culture and nature are published. Stelljes has been part of the editorial team since it was founded and is active as its chairman in the support association of the Heimat-Rundblick ; He also wrote numerous articles himself and illustrated the magazine with numerous photographs. He also organizes art and cultural history tours through the artist village of Worpswede and the surrounding landscape of the Teufelsmoor, as well as guided visits to museums, galleries and artist studios and gives slide lectures on the history of the place. Stelljes is now known as the "Ambassador Worpswedes" and was awarded the Lower Saxony Cross of Merit in November 2009 for his decades of voluntary work .

Helmut Stelljes is married and lives with his wife in Worpswede. The couple have two sons.
