Óscar Hahn

Óscar Hahn , actually Óscar Arturo Hahn Garcés , (* 1938 in Iquique , Chile ) is a Chilean literary scholar and writer.

Life

Hahn is a son of Ralph Hahn Valdés and his wife Enriqueta Garcés Sánchez. Hahn completed his school years at the Colegio Salesiano Don Bosco (Iquique), the Liceo de Hombres ( Valdivia ) and the Liceo Óscar Castro ( Rancagua ). He then studied at the Universidad de Tarapacá in Arica .

In the fall of 1973 General Augusto Pinochet put himself to power and in the spring of the following year Hahn went into exile in the United States . There he received his PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park . At the same time, he was appointed to the Library of Congress in 1978 to work on the Handbook of Latin American Studies .

Hahn finished this work in 1988 and accepted a position as Professor of Spanish Literature and Spanish Language at the University of Iowa . With effect from October 21, 1991 Hahn was accepted as a corresponding member of the Academia Chilena de la Lengua (Chilean Academy of Language).
