Huidobro

Vicente Huidobro (born January 10, 1893 in Santiago de Chile , † January 2, 1948 in Cartagena ; full name Vicente Garcia-Huidobro Fernández ) was a Chilean poet who founded the avant-garde creacionismo . His poems were of great influence on modern Spanish poetry.

Life

First literary work since 1911. In 1916 he moved to Paris. He lived in Paris and Madrid for a few years, was friends with Apollinaire and wrote poetry in Spanish and French. In 1919 he studied in Berlin and Friborg and returned to Paris in 1920. Here he was a member of the Dada movement . Among other things, he worked for the magazine L'esprit nouveau. 1925 return to Chile. There he founded Accion magazine.

Relationship with Pablo Neruda

The contemporaries and compatriots Pablo Neruda and Vicente Huidobro are among the most important poets of their generation in Chile. The relationship between Neruda and Huidobro was tense and marked by mutual attacks and polemics. In the daring poem "Aqui estoy", Neruda confronts Huidobro's hostility. In his memoirs, Neruda described Huidobro as a stubborn egocentric who never contented himself with being a talented poet, but wanted to be “Superman” everywhere.
