The 2085.01 locomotive of the Austrian Federal Railways was a diesel locomotive for standard-gauge rack railways . The D- wheel arrangement locomotive had a rod drive on all four axles and was equipped with two drive gears for the Abt rack system.

The Austrian locomotive 2085.01 was created after the Československé státní dráhy at Simmering-Graz-Pauker (SGP) ordered four diesel-hydraulic locomotives for mixed friction and cogwheel operation on the Tannwalder rack railway . On its own initiative, SGP built a fifth locomotive of this type with an output of 920 kW, and hoped to displace the steam locomotives used on the Erzbergbahn in Styria.

Based on these steam locomotives of the series ÖBB 97 , ÖBB 197 and ÖBB 297 , the diesel locomotive originally received the series designation 2097.01. From 1962, the locomotive was initially used on loan on the Erzbergbahn. In 1963 the locomotive was bought by the ÖBB and renamed as 2085.01. The re-order hoped for by SGP did not take place, however, because the locomotive did not fit into the performance scheme desired by the ÖBB. It was too powerful to replace a single steam locomotive, but its power was insufficient to replace two locomotives, so that freight trains had to continue to run with two locomotives, just like with pure steam operation. For this reason, a separate schedule had to be drawn up for 2085.01 , which did not harmonize with that of the steam locomotives.

After the locomotives of the ÖBB 2043.5 series, which were specially adapted for operation on the Erzbergbahn, were taken over in 1978 and the racks on the line were dismantled, the 2085.01 was parked at the beginning of 1979 and retired in 1980.
