history

In 1288 the facility was mentioned as being owned by the von Güns-Güssing lords . In 1289 the castle was besieged and partially destroyed by Duke Albrecht I of Austria in the course of the Güssing feud . In 1291 the castle was returned from Hungary and taken over again by the von Güns-Güssing family. In 1318 there was an unsuccessful siege by Andreas, the grandson of Ivan von Güns-Güssing. The castle remained in the possession of Nikolaus, known as "the cock", a nephew of Ivan von Güns-Güssing.

In 1445 it was captured by Emperor Friedrich III. In 1478 there was a siege and conquest by King Matthias Corvinus . This was followed by a handover to Jakob Margenwerder, the king's gun master. In 1490 it was sold to Wilhelm Paumkircher. As a result, there was a loss of importance compared to the city castle, which was expanded after 1622. According to Dehio, the castle was demolished in 1838 and the remains of the wall are still there (1976). In the second half of the 19th century, it was destroyed due to an order from the county administration to eliminate the possibility of hiding places for “gang of thieves”.
