The Ecotox Center (full name: Swiss Center for Applied Ecotoxicology Eawag-EPFL ) is a competence center for ecotoxicology based in Dübendorf near Zurich and in Lausanne . It is affiliated with Eawag and EPF Lausanne .

The Center was established in 2008 due to a later one postulate converted motion by Maya Graf on behalf of the Federal Council and the Federal Assembly established. It was intended to close the gap that had arisen after the Institute for Toxicology in Schwerzenbach , which was founded in 1974, was closed in 2001.

The basic mandate is to act as an independent competence center and primary contact point and hub for research and development as well as further training and services for applied, practical ecotoxicology in the areas of water, sediment and soil.

subjects

The institute focuses on the following topics:

  • Aquatic ecotoxicology
  • Soil Ecotoxicology
  • Sediment Ecotoxicology
  • Risk assessment

Expert service

The aim of the institute is to promote the usability of research results for practice through knowledge and technology transfer . For the ecotoxicological evaluation of environmental samples, it offers examinations with various practical bio-tests (aquatic, terrestrial and sediment test systems). Furthermore, quality criteria are derived on the basis of the ecotoxicological effect data using risk assessment models. Employees are represented on numerous committees. The Ecotox Center offers practical training and further education in the field of ecotoxicology and compiles knowledge on specific areas in information sheets.

management
