The Caspar Thywissen oil mill (also C. Thywissen) in Neuss was founded by Caspar Thywissen in 1839 , including an oil business in Neuss. In 1864 the oil mill was considered the most important oil mill in Germany.

Other company locations today are Mülheim an der Ruhr and Hürth-Kalscheuren . The product range includes rapeseed oil, sunflower oil and linseed oil, as well as meal, malt products, animal feed and biodiesel . The company is now in the sixth generation of family ownership, employs 285 people in Germany and had sales of € 820 million in 2008.
