Austrian Society for Architecture
The Austrian Society for Architecture (ÖGFA for short) is an association founded in 1965 with headquarters in Vienna .
aims
The aim of the organization is to promote, disseminate and convey architectural culture through a continuous program of building visits, lectures, discussions, symposia and publications. The ÖGFA is a co-founder of the Austrian Architecture Foundation and is responsible for the conception of the content of the Vienna Architecture Days program.
history
The ÖGFA is one of the oldest architecture mediation institutions in Austria. "The most recent events in building culture and non-culture at the time, including the catastrophic handling of valuable building fabric, such as the chain of demolition of Otto Wagner's tram stations, led to powerlessness and paralysis," says Friedrich Kurrent , founding member and long-time chairman of the ÖGFA. The declared goals of the founding members were not only to create a public for the interests of architecture, but also to deal with the history of architecture, especially the history of modernity, as well as theory building through the publication UmBau.
Founding members of the association were Friedrich Achleitner (architecture critic), Maria Biljan-Bilger (visual artist), Sokratis Dimitriou (architectural historian), Wolfgang Gleissner (lawyer), Viktor Hufnagl (architect), Friedrich Kurrent (architect), Traude Windbrechtinger (architect) and Wolfgang Windbrechtinger (architect).
