PalZ - Paläontologische Zeitschrift (formerly just Paläontologische Zeitschrift ) is a scientific journal for paleontology founded by Otto Jaekel in 1913 . It was and is published by the Paleontological Society . From 1914 it appeared regularly with at least two issues a year, from 1998 it appears with four. From 1914 to 1944 it was published by the Borntraeger publishing house , and after the war by the E. Schweizerbart'sche publishing house . The paleontological journal has been published by Springer-Verlag since 2009 . The articles deal with the paleobiology ofProtozoa , invertebrates and vertebrates and with palichnology alike. Until the late 20th century, they were mainly written in German, more rarely in English (first from 1927) or French (first from 1932). Articles submitted for publication are now being peer-reviewed and the language used is predominantly English (only in 1987 there were more English than German articles).

From 1914 to 2008, 82 volumes with 313 issues including two special issues (1956, 1962) were published. It contained 1895 individual articles and 59 necrologists on 27,820 pages with 11,210 illustrations and 1014 tables. Except in times of crisis (such as 1917, 1941, 1945 to 1950), one volume was published annually. The format and appearance of the magazine and the company's logo have changed several times since its first issue.

Long-term editors were Hermann Schmidt and Helmut Hölder .

The Impact Factor of the Paleontological Journal was 1.100. It was ranked 27th out of 49 journals in the "Paleontology" category in the statistics of the Science Citation Index .
