The Austrian Society for Sleep Medicine and Sleep Research (ÖGSM) is a scientific specialist society that has set itself the goal of researching sleep and its disorders.

The full name of the association based in Innsbruck is "Austrian Society for Sleep Medicine and Sleep Research (ÖGSM) - Austrian Sleep Research Association (ASRA)". It is recorded in the Central Register of Associations under the ZVR number 464486661.

The magazine " Somnologie " has been the official organ of the ÖGSM since 2008.

aims

The aim of the association is to promote sleep research as well as the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders in Austria, which also includes scientific conferences for the interdisciplinary exchange of experience, media work and the publication of informational publications. The activity of the association is not directed towards profit.

activities

The ÖGSM has been operating a procedure for the accreditation of sleep laboratories since 1998 with the aim of ensuring the quality of these facilities. The procedure takes into account personnel, spatial, equipment and structural requirements. The procedure corresponds to that of ESRS and DGSM with small country-specific adaptations. 31 sleep laboratories are currently accredited, including three children's sleep laboratories in Graz, Villach and Vienna (as of December 2011).

history

The association was founded on October 2, 1991 following an international conference. Josef Zeitlhofer was the founding president.

organization

According to the statutes, full membership requires that the person is demonstrably and actively involved in sleep research or sleep medicine and is familiar with the scientific methodology of sleep research and sleep medicine. In addition, extraordinary, corresponding, sponsoring and honorary membership is regulated. The presidium consists of the board of directors and advisory boards.

Wolfgang Mallin from the Hörgas-Enzenbach regional hospital has been president since April 28, 2012 . The association has around 200 members (as of December 2011).
