The Austrian women's field hockey Bundesliga was held for the 72nd time in 2015/16. The Austrian field hockey champion and the representatives for the European competitions 2016/17 were determined. The organizer was the Austrian Hockey Association (ÖHV) and the competition started in September 2015 and ended in June 2016 with the final. The winner of the championship was SV Arminen for the fifth time in a row .
The league was composed of seven teams. They first played a basic round, consisting of two games each (a home and an away game) against the other teams. The first four qualified for the "Final Four". The first and fourth as well as the second and third of the basic round each played a semi-finals. The winners played for the championship title in the final. Third place was not played out. Instead, it went directly to the best placed in the basic round who did not reach the final. A relegation was not carried out because this was the only Austrian women's hockey league on the field. The basic round winner qualified as the second-ranked representative for the European competition. In the event that the winner of the season also becomes champion, the runner-up in the season qualifies for the European Cup.
Shoot-out
A team, like many other European leagues, received three points for a win and zero points for a loss. In the event of a tie after regular time, a shoot-out was played. The winner of this shoot-out received two points and the loser received one point. In addition, a shoot-out was held in the final four if there was a tie at the end of a game.
