from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Austrian men's field hockey Bundesliga was held for the 88th time in 2015/16. The Austrian field hockey champion and the representatives for the European competitions 2016/17 were determined. The organizer was the Austrian Hockey Association (ÖHV) and the competition started in September 2015 and ended in June 2016 with the final. The previous year's champions were HC Wien .

mode

The league was composed of six teams. They first played a basic round, consisting of three games each (at least one home and away game) against the other teams. The first four qualified for the "Final Four". The first and fourth as well as the second and third of the basic round each played a semi-finals. The winners played for the championship title in the final. Third place was not played out. Instead, it went directly to the best placed in the basic round who did not reach the final. Furthermore, the last two of the regular season played to stay in the league. These relegation games took place between the fifth placed in the Bundesliga and the runner-up in men's B, as well as the sixth-placed in the Bundesliga and the first-placed in men's B. The winners were eligible to take part in the Bundesliga for the following season. The basic round winner qualified as the second-ranked representative for the European competition. In the event that the regular season also wins the championship, the regular runner-up qualifies for the European Cup.

Shoot-out

A team, like many other European leagues, received three points for a win and zero points for a loss. In the event of a tie after regular time, a shoot-out was played. The winner of this shoot-out received two points and the loser received one point. In addition, a shoot-out was held in the final four and in the relegation if there was a tie at the end of a game.
