The Austrian Skittles and Bowling Association (ÖSKB) is the Austrian umbrella organization of all bowling and skittles clubs in Austria, with 190 clubs with 3,600 members in 9 regional associations belonging to the bowling section and 60 clubs with 1,200 members in 7 regional associations belonging to the bowling section (as of January 2019) .

structure

The regional associations are divided into the categories of sport bowling CLASSIC (LV11 to LV19) and BOWLING (LV21 to LV29). A separate regional association for bowling and classic bowling can therefore be active in a federal state. Popular sport is integrated in the respective regional association as part of Classic or Bowling; there are no regional associations of their own. In bowling and bowling, there are clubs that call themselves an "association" or have the word "association" in some form in the club name. These are exclusively private clubs, as there can only be one legal national association (LV) in each federal state - such clubs cannot / may not hold state championships, Austrian championships or state championships.

history

Beginning 5,500 years ago

Bowling as a game has been archaeological since approx. Detected 3,500 before the end of the era (excavations in Egypt). In the last millennium it conquered many countries and in some countries was often banned for many years - sometimes with the death penalty.

Modern times

The Keglerbund (ÖKB) was founded in Austria in 1933. As early as 1934, the provincial bowling associations in Vienna and Lower Austria were founded and incorporated into the ÖKB. The first association championships were held in Vienna in 1934 in Cafe Basel. The first international match was played on asphalt tracks against Hungary in 1935. In 1936 sport bowling was officially recognized by the Austrian sports authorities.

After the occupation of Austria, the ÖKB was dissolved and the clubs incorporated into the German Sports Confederation.

In 1948 the organization of the ÖKB was rebuilt and reformed according to the aspects of a sports association. At that time, a total of 83 clubs and 1,316 athletes were registered in the ÖKB in Vienna and Lower Austria . In the years that followed, all federal states established their own regional associations.

Sports bowling

At the 1st World Championships in Belgrade in 1953 in bowling, Alfred Baierl from Austria was the first world champion in the men's individual competition. The women were able to achieve the following placements in the individual competition: 2nd place Maria Schmoranzer and 3rd place Maria Zimmerl. The women's team reached 1st place and the men's team came 2nd.

Since the founding of the ÖKB, bowling has been played on asphalt tracks in the division. Plastic sheets have been built since 1976. The first pinsetter machines came in 1957. Until 1938, wooden balls were used, then Novotex balls, and since 1970 leucorite balls have been used. Wooden cones were used until 1960, then wooden cones with a plastic ring. Now only plastic cones are used.

Since July 2004, 120 litter has been played in all bowling competitions in Austria.

bowling

Bowling originated in Connecticut in 1867 from the then banned bowling, in which 10 instead of 9 pins were placed in a triangle instead of diamonds. At the beginning of the 120th century
