The street Öwer de Hase ( High German : About the Hase) is a street with a Low German name in Osnabrück .

history

The street was given its Low German name on April 17, 1974 after its location above the Hase . As early as 1967, the hare had been converted into a street with an approximately 200 meter long concrete cover. The river disappeared underground under the traffic area. The resulting area was used as a parking lot and to supply the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung printing press .

The first section of the lid was removed in 1999. However, the side banks are passable in order to keep the parking garage of Galeria Kaufhof accessible. The section opened in December 1999 cost 3.7 million DM and, in addition to the paved areas and the open hare, also comprised a diagonal bridge that leads over the hare.

In 2000 the new location of the Neumarkt pharmacy was opened on the Hasebrücke in Wittekindstraße. At number 1 on the street Öwer de Hase it is at the southern end of the street and the former cover.

After it became known that the remaining rabbit lid had to be refurbished for 500,000 euros, it was proposed to remove the lid and expose the rabbit. The printing works of the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung had already been relocated to Belm in 1985, so that no road suitable for cars or trucks was necessary there. After six years of preparation, demolition work began in spring 2016. The 65-meter-long area where the lid was removed opened at the end of November 2016. The 1.8 million expensive project was financed half by the residents and half by the city. However, the paved rabbit bed had to remain in place due to the risk of undermining the bank.

Three bridges with a total of four tree islands were built over the hare. Rock pear trees were planted in the tree islands . Walkways and cycle paths lead along the Hase on both sides of the river.
