Özdemir Basargan
Özdemir Başargan (born September 23, 1935 in Turkey ) is a German-Turkish writer who lives in Berlin .

Başargan belongs to the literary group Werkstatt Berlin , which belongs to the work group Literature of the Working World.
The author himself describes his “fairy tale prose” as contemplative, exotic, erotic, even lyrical. While his stories in Teoman, the Invalid (1984) are aimed more at an adult reading public, his collection of fairy tales, Der einäugige König (1987) , written in both German and Turkish, is aimed at readers “seven to seventy”.
Başargan also published a bilingual collection of folk tales from Turkey, Halk Masallari - Volksmärchen (1984), who first appeared in the German literature business as a literary translator into Turkish in the 1970s.
Furthermore, texts by the politically active author appear in anthologies and literary magazines.
In 2005, Başargan's seventieth birthday was celebrated in the foyer of the ballroom in the Charlottenburg town hall in the presence of Petra Merkel and other representatives of politics. Basargan held a reading on the occasion; he can also be seen often at author readings.
