geography
The lake has an area of 2.45 km² and is at an altitude of 80 m. Its depth is up to 20 m. The Úlfljótsvatn is located directly south of the Þingvallavatn , with which it is connected via its drainage suction . The suction flows through the lake towards the Álftavatn .
history
In 1937 the already existing lake was dammed by a dam from the Ljósafoss power station , which raised the water level by about one meter. The energy of the suction flowing from the Þingvallavatn about 20 meters above sea level into the Úlfljótsvatn is obtained in the Steingrimsstöð power plant , also directly on the lake.
