The Überlandwerk Lower Franconia AG (ÜWU) was a regional power companies in the region of Lower Franconia.
The Royal Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior has already made plans for a nationwide power supply in Lower Franconia. Finally, in 1920 - shortly after the First World War - the Kreis-Elektrizitätsversorgung Unterfranken AG (Kreis-AG) was founded. In 1937 the company was renamed Überlandwerk Mainfranken AG (ÜMAG) and in 1947 Überlandwerk Unterfranken AG. Together with the four Bavarian regional suppliers Energieversorgung Oberfranken AG, Isar-Amperwerke AG, OBAG AG, and Großkraftwerk Franken AG, the Überlandwerke Unterfranken AG were merged in 2001 to form E.ON Bayern AG, today's Bayernwerk AG.
The supply area of the ÜWU extended over 6,300 square kilometers. Most recently, the ÜWU supplied its customers with 4.7 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
