The military survival course Special Forces , English Combat Survival Course (CSC) , was carried out at the Training Center for Special Operations in Pfullendorf and contained behaviors for survival and penetration after escaping from captivity.

Soldiers from international special forces took part in the course. Some of the instructors came from allied nations of NATO . Mandatory of course was Bundeswehr training to sergeant in the Parachute special trains (FschSpezZg) of the paratroopers , Fernspäher , frogmen and part of the selection for the Special Forces Command .

Training goals

The soldier should learn to behave in questioning under the most realistic conditions possible. At the same time, the soldiers of the field intelligence force who conducted the interrogation were able to try out and refine new interrogation techniques. The soldier should ensure his survival in nature with as little work equipment as possible. One of the aims of the course was to flee unnoticed over long distances in the shortest possible time.

Course content

The roster is classified (VS). Each participant signed a corresponding confidentiality agreement at the beginning of the training.

Several penetration exercises took place in which the participants were followed by hunting squads . Most of the training courses, particularly interrogations , took place under medical and psychological supervision. In the first week mainly theoretical knowledge was imparted. So the assembly of makeshift equipment from makeshift aids was taught, which should ensure the "survival" of the course participants. From the second week, the participants were introduced to realistic scenarios in the exercises using sleep deprivation , hunger, cold and psychological pressure .

An exercise consisted of several phases:

  • Isolation phase
  • survey
  • Escape phase with subsequent exercise "Run"
  • Final survey
