A parachute special train ( FschSpezZg ) is a sub-unit of the paratrooper troops of the German Bundeswehr . He has the task of exploring, operating and securing temporary landing zones (TLZ) for aircraft and drop zones for jumpers. Special parachute trains are set up in each of the Bundeswehr's two paratrooper regiments in the supply and support company (1./-). They form the advance forces of the paratrooper regiment or the task force.

Recruitment and training

Active soldiers of the paratrooper regiments or volunteers from all branches of the armed forces can apply for one of the vacant posts in the sub-unit if necessary, especially if they have shown particularly outstanding performance during the basic training . The prerequisite is the successful FschSpezZg EGB selection process.

Depending on use and rank, various courses are completed at the Special Operations Training Center and at the Airborne / Air Transport School.

Mandatory for all soldiers on the trains are:

  • the lone fighter course 1, from the rank of sergeant the lone fighter course 2,
  • Combat First Responder A / B,
  • SERE Level C Survival Course Special Forces ,
  • Freefall courses part 1 (up to 3650 m above sea ​​level / 12000 ft MSL ) and 2 (above 3650 m above sea level / 12000 ft MSL with jumping baggage, weapon and additional equipment by day and night)
  • EGB modules: ST EGB (shooting technology EGB), GDS EGB (combat drill shooting EGB), NK EGB (close combat EGB).

The officer and sergeant ranks take part in other courses such as the planning u. Guide courses EGB, the shooting instructor EGB, the blasting course or the free fall courses part 3 and 4 for dropping military free fall parachutists / material maintenance oxygen equipment and (also for specially qualified teams) person transport by means of tandem jump (authorization to transport heavy loads and / or people with a Paragliding system from heights up to 3650 m NN / 12000 ft MSL during the day).

Particularly qualified ranks are trained as JTAC or CombatControl-Offz or CombatControl-Fw and used as Forward Air Controllers to direct the fire of the artillery or to lead close air support.

All soldiers of the parachute special platoons belong to the specialized forces of the army with extended basic qualifications for special operations (SpezlKr H EGB).
