Overproduction (medicine)
In medicine , overproduction means that the (human) body produces more of something than is actually needed. There are various clinical pictures that are caused by overproduction:
- Obesity : If the body is supplied with more energy than it needs, it is stored in fat cells so that the weight of the individual increases, but not his size. This leads to a number of lifestyle diseases ( arteriosclerosis , hypertension , heart attack, etc.)
- The Cushing's syndrome with osteoporosis , diabetes mellitus , obesity (in particular upper body obesity ) and muscle comes from the overproduction of glucocorticoids .
- The cerebrally caused real puberty praecox (pubertas praecox vera) comes about through an overproduction of regulating hormones of the sex hormone secretion.
