Ülkü Akbaba

Ülkü Akbaba (* 9. March 1958 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish -österreichische actress , dramaturge , director , film - and playwright . She is also involved as an integration expert in Austrian migration policy .

Life

As a child, Akbaba appeared in a number of Turkish films from the mid-1960s, most recently in Kizim ve ben (German: my daughter and me , 1969).

Until 1980 she played theater in Turkey. Among other things, she had various engagements in Istanbul, where she also took on first assistant directorships . From 1980 she began to work in the Viennese independent theater scene. There she studied acting and directing at the Conservatory and graduated with a master 's degree in theater and film studies .

In the early 1990s she became the artistic director of the IODO theater , where she also staged her own pieces such as The Sea and Women (1990) and The Drum (1992). She later switched her work to cultural projects in the fields of film , literature and science . In 1998 she organized the film festival New Films from Turkey for IODO - Art and Culture , organized reading festivals and shot documentaries .
