Ünal Alpuğan (born August 3, 1973 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a former German - Turkish soccer player .

Career

Ünal Alpuğan began his career at Westfalia Buer, FC Schalke 04 and SG Wattenscheid 09 . Until 1997 he played for FC Rhade . From 1997 to 2001 he played again for FC Schalke 04, initially for the amateur team. During the winter break of 1998/99 he was brought in by coach Huub Stevens for Schalke's newcomer Hami Mandıralı as an interpreter for the professional training sessions. The coach noticed him through his training performance, was a regular player for the following year and a half and was appointed to the Turkish national team four times . With FC Schalke 04 he was German runner-up and DFB Cup winner in the 2000/01 season , after which he moved to Çaykur Rizespor . There he played until 2006 and then moved to Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor . For the 2009/2010 season he signed a contract with YEG Hassel, a club that played in the regional league, which included a job as a player-coach. In April 2010 he left the YEG Hassel and ended his playing career.

After the career

Alpuğan has been living in Gelsenkirchen again since 2008 and is planning to obtain his coaching license either in Germany or in Turkey.
