Þorsteinn Sæmundsson (politician)

Þorsteinn B. Sæmundsson (German transcription Thorsteinn B. Saemundsson , born November 14, 1953 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician of the Center Party . Until September 2017 he was a member of the Progress Party .

Þorsteinn first completed a commercial training at the Icelandic Business School ( Verzlunarskóli Íslands ). From 1971 to 1977 he worked for the Icelandic cooperative association Samband íslenskra samvinnufélaga , afterwards as Kaupfélag manager and in other functions in the commercial sector . From 1997 to 2007 he was chief of the police force at Keflavík Airport and from 2007 to 2013 he was the finance officer of the Icelandic Ministry of the Environment. In 2004, he graduated from the University of Iceland's advanced training institute EHÍ with a degree in business administration .

Since the Icelandic parliamentary election on April 27, 2013 , Þorsteinn was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the Southwestern constituency . He was a member of the parliamentary committee on business affairs and was the fifth member of the Althing's parliamentary vice-presidency. Since 2015 he has been a member of the Icelandic delegation to the West Nordic Council . Þorsteinn Sæmundsson did not run for the early parliamentary elections on October 29, 2016 . In September 2017 he left the Progress Party and joined the Center Party (Miðflokkurinn) , a split from the Progress Party. For this he successfully ran in the constituency of Reykjavík South for the early election on October 28, 2017.
