The ČD series 708 is a two-axle diesel-electric locomotive of the Czech Railways ČD for light shunting and mainline service. Because of their angular appearance, the locomotives were given the nickname Velké lego (roughly: large Lego brick )
history
After the positive experience with the previously delivered class 704 , a more powerful, but otherwise largely similar locomotive should now be procured. In 1995 ČKD delivered two prototypes to ČD in Prague , which were followed by the series locomotives in 1997. Due to financial difficulties, however, only a total of 13 locomotives were accepted by ČD. Another example was procured from an industrial company as a work locomotive.
technical features
The six-cylinder engine M 1.2 CM 640 D from LIAZ with an output of 300 kW, which transfers its power directly to the DC generator TA 611 from ČKD, is located in the front extension. The electronic components for power transmission, the equipment for the electrical resistance brake and the DAKO BSE compressed air brake equipment with the air compressor are located in the rear front end. The driver's cab was arranged in the middle to give the driver a good view of the route in both directions.
commitment
In addition to shunting duties, the locomotives are also used in preference to light passenger trains. The 13 locomotives are located in the depots in České Budějovice , Louny , Liberec and Brno .
