The vehicles of the ČSD series 524.13 were tank locomotives of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). They were made in 1943 as a replica of the tried and tested BEB Va type with minor modifications by Škoda , Plzeň .

history

In 1943, the production of 15 locomotives of the former BEB Va series , which were modified compared to the previous machines, was implemented.

Compared to the machines previously released, the distance between the coupled axles was increased, which led to a reduction in the overhang. This brought an increase in the permissible speed to 60 km / h.

15 of these locomotives were built. Since it had several changes compared to the previous machines, its inventory number was executed starting with 301. The same was done for the 534.03 series after 1945 .

technical features

The locomotive had a 1'E1 'wheel arrangement. Due to the low top speed, the design of the two outer running axles as Adam's axles was obviously sufficient, but these were slightly modified compared to the previous machines.

A large pipe superheater was installed in the boiler , the fire box was made of steel and the grate area was reduced to 3.2 m². Since Trofimoff valves were already being used in the ČSD works from 1939 , the new locomotive was also equipped with this design.

Drilled piston rods, linings for the axles and smoke deflectors were ordered subsequently for the machines. However, these changes would have held up production and were therefore not implemented.

commitment

The locomotives were mainly used in the boiler houses in Brno , Skalice nad Svitavou , Česká Třebová and Břeclav . Compared to the previous designs, major reconstructions were not carried out, only the 524.1303 was equipped with a Giesl ejector .

They were in use until the early 1970s. The last one to retire was the 524.1307 in 1973.
