The BEB Va was a tank locomotive series of the Buschtěhrad Railway (BEB).

history

BEB was a private railway company at the time of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, which was taken over by ČSD in 1924 . The BEB ordered six machines of this series, which were to perform pushing service on the Prague - Kladno route , which had gradients of 25 per thousand with many bends of 280 m radius . In addition, they should be used on the route Weipert (Vejprty) - Komotau (Chomutov) (20 per thousand) in passenger traffic. The Bohemian-Moravian Machine Factory designed the machines based on the kkStB 270 series . Both the engine dimensions and the boiler were taken over unchanged from this series. The locomotives were delivered in 1918 and proved their worth.

The ČSD built a superheater into the machines and from 1926 purchased another 156 machines of this type, which they designated as the 524.1 series.

During the Second World War , the Deutsche Reichsbahn classified the former BEB Va as DR 95 251-256 ; the new 524.1 he were designated as DR 95 201–268 .

During their long service with the ČSD, several modifications were made to the locomotives, e.g. For example, many locomotives received the Giesl ejector or Trofimoff slide .

Due to their high performance and low axle pressure, the locomotives were versatile and in use well into the 1970s. The first machines in this series were retired in 1955, and the large wave of retirement began in the 1970s. The last locomotives ran in northern Bohemia and were mainly used for local freight trains and pushing services. The 524.1110 was considered the "star" as it was partially painted green for several years. In 1980, the last machines in the Rumburk depot , the 524.1109, 1110 and 1117, were taken out of service.

Three locomotives have survived in the Czech Republic: the 524.1110 in Česká Lípa , the 524.184 in Chomutov and the 524.159 in the Lužná u Rakovníka Railway Museum . The number 524.1117 is located in Slovakia.
