The EM 488.0 series (today 460 series ) is an electric multiple unit for regional traffic of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

history

In 1971 Vagonka Studénka presented the first prototype of the series. From 1975 onwards, 43 five-part multiple units were built for the ČSD. Conceptually identical vehicles were also procured as the SM 488.0 series for the 25 kV AC system in the south and west of Czechoslovakia .

commitment

The multiple units are still in use at ČD and ŽSR . The vehicles are used in S-Bahn- like traffic in the conurbations around Ostrava and Košice . The trains based in Ústí nad Labem were shortened to four-part units, but have since been replaced there by other series.
