Bengo is a province in the African state of Angola . It has about 356,000 inhabitants on an area of 31,371 km². The province is named after the river of the same name, which it crosses and flows into the Baia do Bengo north of Luanda .

Bengo is one of 18 provinces in Angola. The capital of the province is Caxito .
The province is divided into six districts ( Municípios ):
The Ícolo e Bengo and Quiçama counties were transferred to the province of Luanda in 2011 , while the Bula Atumba, Dembos and Pango Aluquém counties were spun off from the Cuanza Norte province and connected to Bengo.
The six districts of the province are made up of a total of 32 municipalities ( Comunas ).
Location and geography
The province of Bengo is located in the northwest of Angola and encloses the capital province of Luanda . It also borders the province of Zaire to the north, Uíge and Cuanza Norte to the east, Cuanza Sul to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the west .
The province is mostly covered with dry savannah, in the center there is intensively cultivated arable land. The most important river is the Cuanza , which crosses the center of the province before flowing into the Atlantic. A large area in the south of Bengo has been placed under protection and forms the Parque Nacional do Quicama , which extends between the Cuanza, the coast and the southern border of the province.
economy
In addition to coffee and cotton , Bengo's important cultivation products are bananas , papaya and other tropical fruits. Animal husbandry and fishing also play an important role, the latter especially at Ambriz . The available mineral raw materials include kaolin , iron ore and, in the center of the province, also crude oil .
The railway line from Luanda to Malanje crosses the province.
