Nambuangongo is a county in Angola .
history
Nambuangongo was particularly known in connection with the Portuguese colonial war . The independence movement UPA, from which the FNLA emerged shortly afterwards , took up armed struggle in 1961 and moved its headquarters here. Portuguese units captured the area and headquarters in August 1961.
The Portuguese poet and later socialist politician and presidential candidate Manuel Alegre took part in fighting as a soldier. He processed the bloody clashes in a poem which became widely known and was set to music by Paulo de Carvalho . In 2010 Alegre returned to the place and laid flowers at the graves of soldiers buried there.

Nambuangongo is a district ( Município ) in the province of Bengo . The main town of the district is Muxiluando .
The district has 5604 km² and about 120,000 inhabitants. The neighboring districts are, clockwise and starting in the north: Ambuila , Quitexe , Dembos , Ambriz and Dande .
The Nambuangongo County consists of seven communities (Comunas):
- Cage Mazumbo (also Kage)
- Canacassala (also Kanacassala)
- Gombe
- Kicunzo
- Kixico
- Muxiluando
- Zala
