Ambriz is a city in Angola . It is located on a peninsula 180 kilometers north of the state capital Luanda .

history

In 1855, Ambriz became the seat of a separate district of the Portuguese colony of Angola, which began its function in 1857 with its own prison and a customs authority. As early as 1866, the district was dissolved and Luanda was re-incorporated. Ambriz, however, remained the seat of its own circle. The fortress on the Loge River was demolished in 1971.

Due to the strategic importance of its port, Ambriz was extensively mined during the civil war in Angola (1975-2002). Many residents left the city because of this.
