Dembos is a district ( Município ) in Angola .

The name

The name is derived from the Bantu term Dembo and refers to the partly boggy areas that characterize the district. The name of the circle is plural , so it is mostly referred to as Os Dembos (with the Portuguese article Os ) in common parlance .

Dembos is one of the six counties in Bengo Province . The capital of the province is Qibaxe .

The district has 1170 km² and 18,153 inhabitants (as of 2012). In the north it is bounded by the districts of Nambuangongo and Quitexe , in the east by Bula Atumba , in the south by Pango Aluquém and in the west by Dande .

The district consists of four municipalities ( Comunas ):

  • Coxe
  • Quibaxe
  • Paredes
  • Piri

economy

The district is dominated by agriculture. The population is primarily subsistence farming, the main crops for sale are also bananas, sweet potatoes and peanuts. Occasionally, elephants endanger the yield.
