Quiçama National Park

The Quiçama National Park is located in Quiçama County . It is about 70 km south of Luanda and has an area of 9600 km². Established as a protected hunting area in 1938, it was established as a national park in 1957 . It is now one of the six national parks in Angola .

Due to the turmoil of the Angolan Civil War (1975–2002), the park's flora and fauna suffered greatly, and the populations of even the Big Five are not yet known. In the meantime, the park has taken initiatives, in particular to reintroduce elephants. In 2017 there was a major fire that lasted seven days and destroyed 86 hectares of nature and numerous wild animals.

The park has guest houses, a 110 km long coastline and a diverse population of monkeys, antelopes, elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, crocodiles, manatees and birds.
