Big Five (Safari)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Big game hunters used to refer to five specific animals in Africa as the Big Five . There were elephants (primarily the steppe elephant ), rhinoceros (the black rhinoceros , the more aggressive and previously more common species, or the larger white rhinoceros ), buffalo , lion and leopard . The selection was not primarily based on the size of the animals, but mainly on the difficulties and dangers involved in hunting them.
