Moxico is a province of the African state Angola . It is located in the east of the country on the border with Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo . Moxico is the largest province in Angola in terms of area.
The largest lake in the country, Lake Dilolo, is located in Moxico . The Cameia National Park is also located here .
The leader of the UNITA rebels, Jonas Savimbi , had a main base of operations in the province during the Angolan civil war . Savimbi died while on the run in a gun battle with Angolan government troops in February 2002. He was buried in the village of Lucusse (Moxico), about 1000 kilometers (600 miles) southeast of the capital Luanda , under a tree nearby where he was killed has been.

The province is divided into nine districts ( Municípios ), which are further divided into 21 municipalities (Comunas). The provincial capital is Luena .

Economy and Transport
The province of Moxico is a relatively sparsely populated dry savannah that is only interrupted by a few agricultural areas. Maize is grown around Luena and peanuts around Canconga . Other crops are rice, cassava and wheat, and poultry is also farmed. Mineral raw materials include coal, copper, manganese and iron ores.
The Benguela Railway crosses the province.
