Cuanza Norte (also Kwanza-Norte ) is a province of the African state of Angola . The province is named after the Cuanza River.
Location and geography
The province of Cuanza Norte is north of the Cuanza River and about 100 km east of the capital Luanda . It borders in the north on the province of Uíge , in the east on Malanje , in the south on Cuanza Sul and in the west on Bengo .
In Cuanza Norte are the largest remaining remnants of tropical rainforest in Angola. The rest of the province is covered with wet savannah. The most important rivers are the Cuanza, which forms the southern border, as well as the Lucala and the Bengo .

The province of Cuanza Norte had 443,400 inhabitants at the 2014 census. The estimate for 2019 is 510,000 inhabitants. The population in the north belongs to the Bakongo people , in the south to the Ambundu . It has been under Portuguese influence since the 17th, but especially since the 19th century. Much of it is Roman Catholic , but there is a strong proportion of Baptists among the Bakongo . among the Ambundu of Methodists .

The province is structured in 13 districts ( Municípios ) with a total of 36 municipalities (Comunas).

economy
Cuanza Norte's important agricultural products are wood , coffee , cotton and various tropical fruits. Livestock farming is also important. Existing mineral resources are diamonds as well as copper and iron ores . The Cuanza is used to generate energy from hydropower.
The main thoroughfares in Angola intersect in Cuanza Norte. The road from Luanda to Huambo leads through the west of the province, at Dondo the road branches off towards Malanje and on to Luena in the Copperbelt around Lubumbashi . The main road to Kinshasa begins in Lucala . In addition, the Luanda Railway to Malanje crosses the province in the southern part.
