The ČD series 704 (originally ČSD series T 234.0 ) is a two-axle diesel-electric locomotive of the Czech Railways ČD for shunting service. Because of their angular exterior, the locomotives were given the nickname Malé lego (for example: small Lego brick ).
history
Already at the end of the 1970s there was a need for a new light diesel locomotive for shunting at train stations, as the T 211.0 and T 212.0 series vehicles used at the time were reaching the limit of their service life. It was not until 1988/89 that ČKD delivered two prototypes in Prague to the then Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD. Another prototype locomotive differed in its design and was intended for industrial railways (series T 237.0 / 704.4). In 1992, 20 series locomotives were purchased, all of which came to ČD.
technical features
The prototypes received the six-cylinder LIAZ M2-650 engine from LIAZ with an output of 250 kW, which transfers its power directly to the DC generator TA 611 from ČKD. The engine 6 Z 135 T from Diesel International (formerly ČKD Naftové motory) was intended for the series locomotives . The components for power transmission and the DAKO BSE compressed air brake equipment with the air compressor are located in the short rear extension. The driver's cab was arranged in the middle to give the driver a good view of the route in both directions.
commitment
In addition to shunting duties, some of the locomotives are also used for light passenger trains.
