The vehicles of the ČSD series T 334.0 (from 1988: series 710 ) are diesel-hydraulic locomotives for the medium-heavy shunting service of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).
history
Initially, three experimental locomotives were built in which the use of the 12 V 170 DR diesel engine, which had already proven itself in the M 262.0 series motorized multiple units, was tested in practical operation in conjunction with a hydraulic transmission. These advance locomotives of the series T 304.0 , T 306.0 and T 324.0 were built in 1957. The T 334.0, which was first produced in 1961, was developed from them by the ČKD Praha company after rectifying some defects.
In contrast to the advance locomotives, the diesel engine with the H 350 Lr gearbox from ČKD was used in this design, which enabled a higher speed of 60 km / h. This transmission has a shunting gear for 30 km / h and a cross gear for 60 km / h. Power is transmitted to the axles via cardan shafts.
From 1961 to 1966, ČKD Praha produced a total of 325 locomotives for ČSD, larger domestic industrial companies and for export to the GDR (71 units) as well as to Romania and India. From 1966 to 1968, 120 locomotives were delivered to SMZ Dubnica (including to Hungary). In the years 1969–1973 another 131 locomotives were built at Turčianska strojarne n. P. Martin for domestic use and export.
The machines were to be found everywhere in the medium-heavy shunting service. Because of their green paint, they got the nickname "Rosnička" (German: tree frog). In 1988 they were given the new designation 710. As the frames were very robust, ČD began to reconstruct a number of them from 1995 onwards, replacing the machinery and superstructures. That led to the 711 series . The prototype locomotive T 334.001 has been preserved in its original condition in the Bratislava depot , as are others in the various depots.
Before this machine, some Wehrmacht diesel locomotives that remained in the area of the ČSD after 1945 were designated as the T 334.0 series , which were in operation with the ČSD until 1957 and were then sold to private companies.
