The vehicles of the ČKD factory type 1435 CN 400 were diesel locomotives for the medium-heavy shunting service of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). They were the first diesel locomotives made by ČSD with hydrodynamic drive and test vehicles for the ČSD series T 334.0 .

history

After the Second World War , the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) had a great need for shunting locomotives with hydrodynamic drives . On the basis of experience with captured locomotives of the T 334.0 series, there was a demand, particularly from industry, for the development of a similar locomotive. This resulted in the catalog of requirements for a new locomotive for works railways and larger train stations, where small four-axle steam locomotives did medium-sized shifting work.

After the selection of the hydrodynamic gearbox and the diesel engine had been clarified, a locomotive with the type designation 1435 CN 400 was constructed at ČKD Praha around 1954 . Two prototypes were built, the first with 14 t axle pressure was called T 304.0 , the second with the axle pressure increased to 16 t was called T 306.0 . The assembly of both prototypes took place at ČKD Praha until the middle of 1957.

technical description

The locomotive of the factory type 1435 CN 400 is a cabin locomotive with a driver's cab at the end of the main frame.

The cabin in front of it hides the diesel engine 12V 170 DR with an output increased to 400 hp. A flywheel is attached to the outside of the engine's crankshaft and transferred the torque to the input shaft of the H 350 L hydrodynamic gearbox . From the output shaft of this gearbox, the torque was passed on to an electro-pneumatically controlled mechanical reversing gearbox , at the output of which was a jackshaft that drove the three drive axles via rods.

In addition to the drive system, the cooling hole for the cooling water, the oil tank for the hydrodynamic gearbox, the air compressor, the alternator, the diesel tank and the expansion tank for the cooling water circuit were housed under the cabin.

The frame was a welded sheet metal construction.

The driver's cab was located at the end of the frame. It was completely closed, the front windows were fixed, the side windows could be moved. Two driver's cabs were located at the front part of the cabin, and a switch cabinet was located at the rear.

8 accumulator batteries with a total voltage of 24 V at 600 Ah were stored in a lockable box under the floor of the driver's cab. The alternator was driven by a cardan shaft and was externally ventilated. The diesel engine was started by 2 starters with a voltage of 24 V, which spun the engine over the entrance area of the hydrodynamic gearbox.

The braking system consisted of an automatic and non-automatic pneumatic brake system Westinghouse and a handbrake.

The locomotive had a coke oven to keep the drive system warm when it was parked in frosty weather.

T 306.0501

The first to be completed in June 1957 was the T 306.0501 locomotive , its ČKD production number was 3802 . Immediately after completion, it was put into trial operation for shunting in the Prague manufacturing plant. The technical and police examination of the machine was completed on November 19, 1957.

On March 3, 1958, she was sold to the industrial railway of CKD in Sokolov issued. It cannot be ruled out that it was exhibited together with the T 211.1002 at a machine technology fair in Brno . In 1957 and 1958 it was also tested in operation at the ČSD , especially in Prague and the surrounding area.

In operation there were some deficiencies that the manufacturer could not permanently eliminate, e.g. B. the noise intensity in the driver's cab, problems with the hydrodynamic transmission and leaks in the diesel engine. This led to an early retirement of the locomotive.

The locomotive was handed over to another works railway at ČKD , where it was in service until the mid-1970s and was then scrapped.

T 304.001

The second of the series of locomotives, designated T 304.001 (production number ČKD 3803 ) was completed at the end of August 1957, and the technical and police examination took place on December 17, 1957.

The test was initially carried out with the first prototype at the ČKD works railway . On September 21, 1958 she was handed over to another ČKD works railway for shunting service.

In continuous operation, the locomotive had the same defects as in the first prototype. In the mid-1970s it was handed over to a works railway in Vysočany , where it was scrapped in 1977.
