Breakthrough of the left tube on June 5, 2020

The double-track Čortanovci tunnel is 1.1 km after the Bežanijska-kosa tunnel, the longest on the future Budapest – Belgrade high-speed line .

With the breakthrough of the second tunnel tube on June 5, 2020, the scheduled start of the Beograd Prokp – Novi Sad station route, which has now been expanded to 200 km / h, was announced for autumn 2021. The route between Batajnica and Stara Pazova will also be expanded to four tracks in order to separate freight and passenger traffic. The route reaches in Čortanovci at 148 m above sea level. NN the vertex of the whole relation between Belgrade and Budapest. The route is thus a lowland railway, the greatest obstacles of which are the crossings of the Danube and Sava rivers and, with the construction of the high-speed route, the necessary tunneling through the Syrmian Loess Plateau and the construction of a subsequent viaduct in the floodplain of the Danube.

geology

Behind Čortanovci , the Čortanovci tunnel, which is led through geologically complex neogenic clay sands formed in the Pliocene, Pleistocene clay (limestone) sands and early Pleistocene loosing, crosses the eastern foothills of the Fruška Gora. Behind it extends the gently sloping Syrmian Loess Plateau, which later dominates the landscape as far as Novi Belgrade.

The demanding construction work at Čortanovci is being carried out by engineers from the Russian Railways. DB experts are hired to monitor, and the Dutch rail consultant Ricardo is entrusted with the certification. The main Belgrade – Novi Sad line will be closed for six months from the end of 2018 during construction. All trains in the direction of Novi Sad and Hungary have to be diverted via Pančevo – Orlovat – Novi Sad. The cost of the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section is estimated at $ 598 million. At Vrbas, the new line outside the city is to be guided on a 1.6-kilometer viaduct.

construction

A 3 km long viaduct joins the tunnel at the northern portal.

The geologically most demanding section of the route through the Fruška Gora and along the Danube near Sremski Karlovci is being expanded to 200 km / h by RŽD-International. This required the 1.1 kilometer long Čortanovci tunnel and a 2.9 kilometer long viaduct (103 columns; up to 28 meters high) over alluvial surfaces in the Danube floodplain. An expansion to 200 km / h is only planned for the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section. All other sections of the route between Belgrade and Subotica are intended for speeds of up to 160 km / h. The previous section of the route Novi Sad – Subotica was completely closed during the construction work and a diversion via Sombor was set up.

The director of RŽD-International Serbia and Deputy Director of RŽD-International Mansurbek Sultanov were responsible for the management of the work . The Russian company Мосметрострой is carrying out the tunnel work.

costs

The total costs of the 40.4 km long Stara Pazova-Novi Sad section amount to 585.5 million dollars, of which 247.9 million are for the open route and 337.6 million for the viaduct and tunnel. The viaduct is supported by 2500 concrete foundations, a total of over 80 km long, which were set in alluvial soil in the floodplain on the Danube bank. The viaduct runs directly parallel to the Danube
