İlahi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

İlahî (plural ilahîler ) are poems of religious or Sufi content set to music among the Turkic peoples . The designation of these hymns as "ilahi" can be traced back to the 17th century. The practice of such hymns has been known among the Turks since pre-Islamic times.

Often the poetic works of well-known Sufis such as Jalal ad-Din Rumi or Yunus Emre provide the texts for an İlahî. İlahîs are often chanted in conjunction with the Dhikr ceremony .
