Sami Yusuf ( Persian سامی یوسف; * July 1980 in Tabriz ) is a British singer, composer and musician of Azerbaijani descent. He became known through his debut album Al-Muallim ("The Teacher"). In 2005 his second album My Ummah ("My Community") was released. On October 28, 2010 his third album was released with the title Where Ever You Are .

biography

Sami Yusuf is a son of the Iranian musician and songwriter Babak Radmanesch, with whom he also sang the song "Dryer Land" in a duet. The name "Sami Yusuf" is - as the artist announced in an interview with Voice of America - his stage name . According to his own information, his real first name is Siāmak ( Persian سيامک), he doesn't want to reveal his last name to the public. His father's name, "Babak Radmanesch", is also an artist name.

Sami Yusuf learned some instruments at a young age and started singing and composing. He studied music at several institutions with famous composers and musicians, including composers from the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Sami Yusuf is a practicing Muslim , his songs deal with the love of Allah , the Prophet Mohammed and being a Muslim. In his music he also deals with social and humanitarian issues. His music is particularly successful and known in the Arab world.

Sami Yusuf also sings with other bands (e.g. Outlandish ).

He is married to a German.
