İlker Tuzcu (born July 5, 1993 ) is a Turkish badminton player . He starts because of a shortened right arm in parabadminton in the starting class SU5 in singles and doubles. Tuzcu is preparing to participate in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo .

Athletic career

İlker Tuzcu came in 2004 on the advice of a sports teacher who paid the training fee, for badminton . Until 2009 he played together with non-disabled people and then in Parabadminton . At the Badminton World Cup for the disabled in Guatemala City in 2011, Tuzcu lost to his Malaysian opponent Liek Hou Cheah in the singles final . In the doubles semifinals he and his partner Tunahan Eser failed against the Malaysian duo Liek Hou Cheah and Suhaili Laiman . In 2012 Tuzcu became European champion for the first time at the European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Dortmund by beating Poland's Bartłomiej Mróz in the final . He also won gold with the Russian Mikhail Chiviksin in doubles, which was held as a round- robin tournament with women and men due to the small number of participants . In the double competition of the 2013 World Cup, also in Dortmund, Bartłomiej Mróz and Tuzcu faced Liek Hou Cheah and Suhaili Laiman in the final and lost in two sets. In the singles final of the Parabadminton European Championship 2014 in Murcia , Tuzcu was able to defend his title with a victory over Bartłomiej Mróz. In doubles he won with Mróz over the Israeli-French team Eyal Bachar and Colin Kerouanton . At the 2015 World Championships in Stoke Mandeville, Tuczu was defeated in the individual semi-finals by the eventual world champion Liek Hou Cheah. In the doubles final, Tuzcu and Mróz failed to the Malaysians Liek Hou Cheah and Hairol Fozi Saaba .

The 2016 European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Beek , the Netherlands , brought Tuzcu two gold medals. In the singles final he defeated Bartłomiej Mróz and in doubles he beat the Franco-Welsh duo Meril Loquette and David Jack Wilson alongside Mróz . At the European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Rodez in 2018 , Tuzcu lost in the individual final against Mróz. Both together defeated the French team Meril Loquette and Lucas Mazur in the doubles final .
