Irada Asumowa ( Azerbaijani İradə Aşumova ; born February 25, 1958 in Baku , Azerbaijani SSR ) is a former Soviet, from 1993 Azerbaijani sports shooter . In 2004 she won an Olympic bronze medal with the sport pistol.

Career

Irada Asumova started shooting in 1974. In 1985 she won the silver medal with the air pistol at the World Championships in Mexico City . In 1986 she won the World Cup in Suhl with the sport pistol and took third place with the air pistol.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, she first competed for Azerbaijan at the European Championships in 1994 and took fourth place with the air pistol. At the 1996 Olympic Games , she reached 10th place with the air pistol and 15th place with the sports pistol. In 1998 she won the silver medal with the sport pistol at the World Championships in Barcelona. At the 2000 Olympic Games , she finished 31st with the sports pistol and 45th with the air pistol. In 2002 she repeated her success from 1998 and received the silver medal with the sport pistol at the World Championships in Lahti. At the 2002 World Cup finals, she took third place with the sport pistol. In 2003 she reached fourth place at the European Championships with the sport pistol.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she reached the finals in both of her disciplines. With the air pistol she took eighth place, with the sports pistol she won the bronze medal behind Bulgarian Marija Grosdewa and Czech Lenka Hyková . At the 2004 World Cup finals, she achieved second place with the sport pistol.

Asumova also took part in the 2012 Olympic Games , where she finished 23rd with the sports pistol and 39th with the air pistol. Her best placement in the following years was tenth place with the sport pistol at the European Championships in 2013. In 2015 she was 15th with the sport pistol and 26th with the air pistol at the European Games in her hometown of Baku.

Asumowa started for Neftchi Baku . She is a teacher at the sports college and the mother of two children.
