İrfan Yay

İrfan Yay (* 1926 in Izmir ) is a Turkish former lieutenant general of the army (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) .

Life

After attending school, Yay began an officer training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) , which he completed in 1946 as an ensign (Asteğmen) of the armored forces. In the following twenty years he was used as an officer and after graduating from the Army Academy ( Kara Harp Akademisi ) as a staff officer in army units. After returning from a training course for staff officers in the Bundeswehr , he became head of the Organization and Cadre Department in the organizational training subdivision in the Army Headquarters in 1967 and then in 1969 commander of the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Süloğlu, which belongs to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Division, and head of the Operations Training Department of the IX stationed in Erzurum . Corps. He then became Chief of Staff of the 51st Division in Dumlu in 1972 and Chief of Staff of the IX in 1973. Corps.

After his promotion to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) Yay 1974 was commander of the 1st Tank Brigade (1st Zırhlı Tugayı) in Hadımköy . In 1978 he was promoted to major general (Tümgeneral) and took over the post of commander of the army school as the successor to major general Ragıp Uluğbay . He held this post for four years until his replacement by Major General Fikret Küpeli in 1982.

After Yay was promoted to lieutenant general (co- general ) in 1982 , he became commanding general of the IX. Corps (IX. Kolordu) in Erzurum. Most recently, he was commander of the Central Cartography Command (Harita Genel Komutanlığı) on August 23, 1984 and remained in this position until his retirement in August 1986. He is married and has two children.
