OKATO

OKATO ( ОКАТО, Общероссийский классификатор объектов административно-территориального деления ) is a key for the classification of administrative objects of the Russian Federation , similar to the municipality key in Germany.

Objects

The following objects are classified with the OKATO key:

  • Republics
  • Regions (Russian krai , pl. Kraja )
  • Oblasts (areas)
  • Cities of federation importance
  • Autonomous Oblasts
  • Autonomous circles
  • Rajons
  • Cities
  • Townships
  • Urban settlements
  • Village Soviets (and objects of equal rank)
  • Rural settlements (various types)

OKATO consists of three hierarchical levels.

structure

The structure of the code designations in the identification block is, with optional parts in brackets that are not written in the actual code:

XX [XXX [XXX]] [K]

Here are

  • 1st and 2nd digit - objects of the highest hierarchical level;
  • 3rd to 5th digits - objects of the middle hierarchical level;
  • 6th to 8th digits - objects of the lower hierarchical level;
  • K - control digit.

Daursky Village Soviet of the Sabaikal Raion in Chita Oblast - 76 212 825 - the OKATO code consists of:

  • 76 (1st and 2nd digits) - Chita Oblast;
  • 2 (3rd digit) - code for Rajon (middle hierarchy level);
  • 12 (4th and 5th digits) - Sabaikal Rajon;
  • 8 (6th digit) - code for village soviet (lower hierarchical level);
  • 25 (7th and 8th digits) - Daurski Dorfsovjet.
