Řehoř Hrubý z Jelení
Řehoř Hrubý z Jelení , German also Gregor Hruby von Jeleni (* around 1460, † March 7, 1514 in Prague ) was a Czech writer , translator and humanist .
At first he lived on his country estate near Louny . At the beginning of the 16th century he sold the property, sent his son Sigismund to study in Italy and moved to Prague himself. There he devoted himself to literature, especially translations from Latin . He gained his extensive knowledge mainly through self-taught learning. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the humanist Viktorin Kornel ze Všehrd .
In addition to religious writings, Řehoř Hrubý z Jelení also translated works by Cicero and Italian humanists. He supplemented the translations with his own thoughts, notes and comments.
