Şerif Gören ( Greek Σερίφ Γκιορέν Seríf Gkiorén , born October 14, 1944 in Xanthi , Greece ) is a Turkish director of several award-winning films.

Life

He spent the first years of his childhood in his hometown of Xanthi. In 1956 he went to Turkey on a scholarship to begin his education at the Istanbul Boys' High School after winning a scholarship organized on behalf of the then Turkish President Celâl Bayar .

His contact with the film industry came about by chance in 1962, when an acquaintance found him a job at the Erman film studio while looking for work . There he worked as a film editor from 1962 to 1968 . He later started working as an assistant director and then as a director. His collaboration with Yılmaz Güney began in 1966. Gören made films such as Deprem (1976), Duvar and Köprü (1975).

Occasionally he was seen in front of the camera himself. In some of his films he took on small roles and in one film ( Sen Türkülerini Söyle ) he played the main role.

Serif Gören's most famous film is Yol - The Way . As co-director alongside Yılmaz Güney , he received the Palme d'Or at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1982 and the French Critics' Prize in 1983.

Gören was also involved in the script of the Oscar-winning Swiss-Turkish-British film Journey of Hope from 1990.
